Buckhorn Creek Nursery is a small, modern container plant nursery located in northern Mecklenburg County in Southside Virginia. Dedicated to providing the retail nursery, garden center, and landscape industry with high quality, traditional and Xeriscape plant products, Buckhorn Creek is growing high-demand familiar plants and unusual, hard-to-find items. The Nursery has 160 cultivars of interesting and reasonably priced plants; many selected to survive in the drought and rainy seasons recently seen in Virginia. In addition, there is a limited stock of mature plants from the Hillside Gardens Nursery of the late Albert J. (Bert) Shoosmith, our mentor, teacher, employer and friend in Chester, VA.
Conveniently located 8.5 miles west of South Hill on US 47 between South Hill and Chase City, the Nursery is 2 miles north of the intersection of US 47 and VA 660 (Old Cox Road), and is open from 8:00 to 4:30 daily. We are usually at our home on the property for lunch.
The Traditional Plant Inventory includes the area's favorites. Nurseries and landscapers will recognize these items as those most in demand by their customers. These plants are generally available, subject to market demand.
Our Xeriscape Plant Inventory has been selected to enhance the beauty of landscapes and residential areas with the added benefit of low water requirement. These drought resistant items provide the retail nursery and landscaper with an alternative that adds beauty and durability to the job.
Even though we are not a retail nursery, the public may shop in the nursery as well. Prices will correspond to other retail sources and include state tax.
